SHIELA and  I  camped at MEDICINE HAT for two days had a pleasant stay

WE had to rest two nights at BASSANO also when we were at  VICTORIA the robbins would sing by my tent every morning  they seem to be with me ever since

SHIELA and I  spent two restfull  nights at GLEICHEN a rest we both needed I find riding the bike is harder on the body than walking

THIS was the weight of my bicycle and trailer at the scale at STRATHMORE

MAY 14 and 15 we camped at STRATHMORE  CAMPGROUNDS at no charge THANKS  to the CAMP OPERATERS
I would like to THANK the two gentlemen who came to visit SHIELA and myself they provided some good company a camp fire and donations

SHIELA and I went further down the road and camped at CHESTERMERE east of CALGARY the first night we were on the road

I finally have some pictures from when we left CALGARY this was our first stop the sign shows that they allow people to camp with tents but when SHIELA and I stopped in we were told they no longer allow tents they only allow travel trailers and motorhomes maybe they do not like the way we look

SHIELA and I are at BROOKS at this time I am having problems downloading pictures from my camera I will post pictures later

MANY MANY THANKS to BILL from STAMPEDE STORAGE  BILL let me use tools to remodel my trailer BILL will also store my truck while we are traveling SHIELA will now be able to ride when she is tired or has sore paws she will also be dry when it rains

SHIELA  and I are still in CALGARY because of SHIELAS and the distance we have to travel I have to change my plan last summer SHIELA and I both were walking I  have decided to ride the bike and have SHIELA walk beside the bike I am going to make some changes to my trailer so SHIELA can ride in the trailer when she is tired I hope to double the distance we travel each day and also I will not have to carry as much food and water I know this will be easier on SHIELA and I will be able to get SHIELA across CANADA  I wanted to walk her across we just do not have enough time

 

 

 

SHIELA  and I  frustrated in CALGARY there is no shoulder or bike lane along TRANS CAN HWY through CALGARY so we have to by pass CALGARY
I tried to find boots for SHIELA but the ones the stores sell are not suitable for a dog to walk any distance the ones I tried to use last summer did more harm than good
I also tried to find her a rain coat the extra large coats for a GERMAN SHEPPARD only cover half her body so I bought 2 I will have to try to sew them together
WE will try to get on the road on the 9 th or 10 th if it quits snowing

When we are on the road I put a harness on SHIELA  and I also have a harness I hook SHIELA  to myself and I hook my harness to the trailer so we both pull the load some days SHIELA pulls the trailer  and me
Most days the bike and trailer weigh 150 kg plus depending on the distance from one town to the next
SHIELA has gotten so powerful I have a hard time to hold her if my bike did not have disc brakes I would not be able to hold her when she has her harness on  if she keeps getting stronger I  will have to  put a halter on her

SHIELA was born JULY  2006 at STONEY PLAIN ALTA
SHE  was given to me when she was a year old the only time we are separated is when I go where
   dogs are not allowed  at this time she weighs 102 lbs
I was born in 1952 I weigh 150 lbs

SHIELA  started her journey to walk across CANADA on JUNE 21  2013 

I was diagnosed with prostrate cancer 2012 I will not go for radiation treatments or surgery
I was also diagnosed with ostheo arthritis and COPD
I was prescribed inhalers and morphine for pain
I was thinking I might have to find a home for SHIELA so I decided to show her to all of CANADA
After we walked for a month I no longer needed the inhalers or the morphine and I feel great
I am sure SHIELA and I will get to the EAST COAST

SHIELA and I travel with a bicycle and a trailer I do not ride the bicycle I use the bicycle and trailer to haul  our supplies
When we are on the road my bicycle and trailer weigh 150 kg  sometimes more depends on the distance from one town to the next
I have a harness for SHIELA and myself  and we pull the trailer and bicycle some days SHIELA pulls the trailer and me

SHIELA  weighs 50 kg I weigh 70kg

 When SHIELA  decides to go I have to use the bicycle brakes to hold her if she gets much stronger I will not be able to holder when she has her harness on

SHIELA and I  are sitting in CALGARY waiting for  the snow to clear
We have walked in the rain and snow we also camped in the rain and snow on VANCOUVER ISL
WE have been living in a tent since we started our journey JUNE 2013

SHIELA and I have walked all the miles  from VICTORIA TO CALGARY
 WE  will be leaving CALGARY shortly and continuing our journey EAST on TRANS CAN HWY

While  SHIELA and I were in CHILLIWACK  I had to make a new cover for my trailer  the old cover started to fall  apart
